(KARK) Matt Johnson, 44, was serving a 30-day sentence for failure to pay fines for some misdemeanors when he was brutally injured in a fight.
Johnson’s mother says that the lack of care he received afterwards could leave him disabled for life.
“It was a giant hematoma that pushed his brain over to one side,” Marilyn Mansfield said. “The surgeon said she needed more time. You can have the best result if you get to it within two and four hours. Well, obviously that didn’t happen for Matt.”
Guards contacted the facility doctor after the fight, but were advised to wait and update the medical professional on Johnson’s condition.
Johnson wasn’t rushed to the hospital until guards noticed he was suffering from seizures around eight hours later.
