18-year-old woman overdoses while chatting online

SUFFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) – Suffield Police had to use the overdose reversal drug Narcan, early Sunday morning, to save a woman’s life who overdosed while speaking with someone across the country.

According to Suffield Police Capt. Christopher McKee, the department received a 911 call on December 18th from a person in Arizona, who said he was on an internet chat site with an 18-year-old woman in Suffield, when it looked like she overdosed.

Using the woman’s cellphone number, police found her address in Suffield, Capt. McKee said. When the officers arrived, the woman was found unresponsive and not breathing, so Narcan was used to revive her.

Capt. McKee said the woman was conscious and alert, after the Narcan was used, and the officers continued to provide emergency medical care until Emergency Medical Services arrived. The woman was taken to a local area hospital for further treatment.

The Suffield Police want to use this opportunity to remind people that opioid use and addiction can impact any family at any time. Capt. McKee said members of the Suffield Police Department were just trained on how to properly administer Narcan in October of 2016.
