Victim identified in Shelby County fatal crash

SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim in a fatal crash on Sunday night.

The Sheriff’s Office says 45-year-old John Koewler from Maplewood, Ohio died in the crash.

It happened on Sunday around 10:15 p.m. in the 18000 block of Herring Road.

The Sheriff’s Office says Koewler was driving west on Herring Road in a pickup truck when he ran off the left side of the road.

Koewler’s truck went into a ditch and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

Emergency personnel from the Perry Port Salem Rescue and Port Jefferson Fire Department assisted the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
