Man arrested for causing deadly Akron house fire

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An Akron man is behind bars, accused of starting a fire that killed five children and two adults.

7 people, including 5 children, died in a house fire in Akron/WKYC

State and local authorities arrested 58-year-old Stanley O. Ford in connection with the fatal arson on Fultz Road. He’s been charged with one count of aggravated arson and seven counts of aggravated murder.

“This is a devastating tragedy for our community,” Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan said. “The safety of our residents is my top priority, and I vow to do everything in my power to ensure that justice is achieved for these victims and their families.”

 The fire happened in the early morning hours of Monday, May 15th. When crews arrived, they found the house in flames.

Seven people died in the fire, including five children.
