BELLBROOK, Ohio (WDTN) – The search for a missing swimmer ended Wednesday in Bellbrook.
Search crews located the body of the 17-year-old who had been missing since Tuesday night in the Little Miami River.
Multiple agencies were called to the Little Miami River, near Bellbrook Canoe Rental, Tuesday night to assist in the search. Bellbrook Fire Chief Jim Neidhard said they received the call requesting a water rescue at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday
Dive crews scoured the water searching for the missing young man for several hours.
According to witnesses, a group of approximately 15 teens were rope swinging in the Little Miami River when the missing teen tried to walk across the water carrying a backpack and went under.
Friends who were with him at the time of the accident told 2 NEWS one of his close friends jumped in the water to help him, but he never came back up. They said the 17-year-old is a Bellbrook High School student.
“It was something funny until we realized that it wasn’t,” said Mark Head, a friend of the missing teen.
“We pushed him over to the log, and then he just let go,” said Autumn Taylor, one of the teen’s friends.
“It’s just not something you’d expect to happen to you and your friends,” Head said. “It’s just like looking at a movie in health class or just an after school special thing.”
